How to Choose Hardware for Cabinets, Furniture and Projects

Hardware is small, but it has an outsized effect on how a room or piece of furniture feels. Handles, pulls, hinges, latches, brackets, and other functional details should be selected for fit and durability first, then finish and style.

Measure before replacing hardware

When replacing existing cabinet pulls, measure the center-to-center distance between mounting holes rather than the overall length. For hinges and structural hardware, confirm load requirements, mounting surface, screw size, swing, and clearance.

For a consistent interior, repeat a limited family of finishes without forcing every piece to be identical.
